Kibble for neutered cats: how to choose?

Neutering alters a cat's metabolism: they expend less energy and often have a greater appetite. Without adjusting their diet, weight gain is common. Here is how to choose.

1. Fewer calories, same amount of protein

"Sterilised" formulas are lower in fat and calories, while remaining rich in animal protein to maintain muscle mass. Examples: BRAVERY Sterilized Chicken (12% crude fat), AMITY Sterilized Salmon.

2. Fibre for satiety

Fibre helps the cat feel full and promotes healthy transit. It also limits the formation of hairballs.

3. Consider hydration

Cats naturally drink very little. Place water away from the food bowl, change it daily, and consider a fountain: moving water encourages them to drink more.

4. Indoor cat: the same logic

A cat that does not go outside expends less energy: "indoor" or "light" formulas are also suitable, such as ACANA Indoor Entrée or LUPUS EXPERT Chat Light.

5. Weigh the daily portion

The daily feeding amount indicated by the manufacturer is a starting point: adjust according to their physical condition. A kitchen scale prevents overly generous "handfuls". Splitting the daily portion into several small meals works well for cats.
