How to choose your puppy's kibble?

Growth is the period when nutrition matters most: a puppy is building its bones, muscles, and immune system. Here are the essential guidelines for choosing their kibble.

1. Choose a "puppy" formula (puppy / junior)

Puppy kibble is richer in energy, protein, and balanced minerals than adult kibble. It is generally fed up to 12 months for small and medium breeds, and up to 18–24 months for large breeds, whose growth takes longer.

2. Think about adult size, not current size

A large breed puppy needs to grow gradually: "large breed" formulas limit excess calcium and energy. Conversely, small breeds need small, highly energetic kibbles. Always look at the estimated adult weight indicated on the packaging.

3. Read the ingredients

Choose a recipe where an animal protein (chicken, fish, lamb...) is the first ingredient, with omega-3 (DHA) beneficial for development. On each Animorix page, the full list of ingredients and analytical constituents is displayed.

4. Respect the daily portion... and divide it

The portion depends on age and adult weight: the manufacturer's feeding guide is on each product sheet. Up to 6 months, divide it into 3 meals, then 2. Monitor their silhouette: you should be able to feel the ribs without seeing them.

5. Make a smooth transition

Change food over 7 days: 25% new kibble for the first 2 days, 50% for the next 2, 75% then, and 100% finally. This prevents digestive upsets.
