Grain-free kibble: for which dog or cat?

Gamelle de croquettes entourée d’ingrédients frais : saumon, poulet, patate douce, petits pois

"Grain-free" kibble replaces wheat, maize or rice with other sources of carbohydrates: legumes, potato, sweet potato… Is it right for your pet?

Who is it for?

  • Pets that struggle to digest certain grains or have a confirmed intolerance.
  • Owners looking for a recipe rich in animal protein: many grain-free formulas contain a high proportion (for example ORIJEN or ACANA).

What it does not guarantee

"Grain-free" does not mean "carb-free" or automatically "better". What matters most: the quality and proportion of animal proteins, the overall balance and digestibility. A healthy dog or cat can eat a high-quality recipe with grains perfectly well.

Allergies: consider the protein too

Food allergies are often linked to the protein source (beef, chicken…) rather than grains. Single-protein recipes make identification easier: ACANA Singles Duck, ACANA Singles Lamb. In case of persistent itching or digestive problems, consult a vet.

How to spot a good recipe

On each Animorix product page, the composition tab details the ingredients and analytical constituents (protein, crude fat, crude fibre). Grain-free recipes feature the "Grain-free" badge.

Not sure? Our 4-question test tells you the right recipe, the daily feeding amount and how many days the bag will last: Find your kibble →

These are general tips. For a sick, significantly overweight or treated animal, ask your vet for advice.
