How much kibble should you feed your dog?

Too much kibble and your dog gains weight, too little and they lack energy. The right daily amount depends on the recipe (each food has its own energy density), as well as your dog's weight and activity level.

1. Start with the manufacturer's feeding guidelines

Each Animorix kibble product page displays the manufacturer's feeding table: for example, for an adult dog weighing 20 kg, the manufacturer recommends 180 to 280 g/day of ACANA Adult Dog depending on activity, compared to around 280 g of BRAVERY Adult Medium & Large. This is why it is so important to follow the table specific to your recipe.

2. Adjust according to activity level

  • Low-activity, senior or neutered dog: around 10 to 20% less.
  • Sporting or working dog: up to 20–30% more, or a "sport" formula.

3. Monitor body shape

The best indicator remains your dog's body: you should be able to feel the ribs without seeing them, and clearly see the waistline from above. Weigh your dog once a month and adjust in 10% increments.

4. Count the treats

Treats should not exceed 10% of daily intake: remember to slightly reduce the daily kibble ration on training days.

5. Weigh rather than estimating "by eye"

A measuring cup can vary significantly depending on the size of the kibble: a kitchen scale is much more precise.
