Cat grooming equipment

Cats groom themselves, but a regular helping hand reduces hairballs, tangles and shedding around the house. Our grooming range includes combs and detanglers, brushes and slickers, plus ear-trimming tools, from Artero, HPP, Show Tech, Karlie, Spratts and Centaure.

Which tool for which coat?

For a short coat, a soft slicker or a metal-pin brush is usually enough to remove dead undercoat. For a long or medium coat, conical-tooth combs such as the Bear range or an undercoat rake detangle gently without pulling, while a stripping knife or blade trimmer is for finishing touches only, never for cutting the skin.

How often should you brush?

Weekly brushing suits most short-haired cats; aim for two to three sessions a week for long coats, and more during spring and autumn moulting. A fine-toothed comb stays handy around the eyes and muzzle.

What about the ears?

Some long-haired cats build up hair in the outer ear canal; a suitable trimming tweezer, like those in our cat ear-trimming range, allows for occasional, careful upkeep.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a long-haired cat be brushed?
Two to three times a week for routine care, and almost daily during moulting periods.
Which brush removes a cat's dead undercoat?
A fine-pin slicker or an undercoat rake efficiently removes dead hair without damaging the top coat.
Does grooming hurt a cat?
Proper brushing should not be painful; for a big tangle, work it loose gently in small sections rather than pulling.
Should hair inside a cat's ears be trimmed?
Only when necessary, with a suitable tweezer; if in doubt or if you see redness, ask your vet first.
